Beautiful aviary! Plan on spending an hour here. It is small but worth the $15 entry fee in my opinion. It is located inside of a condo complex, and is not well marked. We passed it up and had to go back, paying close attention to find the entrance. There are also some smaller Mayan Ruins nearby, worth a short walk to see!

Xaman-Ha is a lovely sanctuary, lovingly managed by knowledgeable staff (shout out to Edgar who was so fun to chat with!). It’s located within the gated hotel-zone of Playacar (security check at entrance). Although not very large in size, strolling through the sanctuary’s rustic paths and resting on the benches makes for a relaxing experience. They house an impressive amount of bird species and it’s quite obvious the birds are all well cared for. They even rehabilitate pelicans before releasing them back into the wild. Overall, a visit here is time and money well spent, just keep in mind it’s a sanctuary, not a zoo. A must-visit for bird lovers!

Before entering we found the ticket price USD15 a bit expensive to see some birds only, but we were very happy we went in.
It is a beautiful place, like a mini jungle. Our small kids also loved it. I would recommend it to my friends.

I’m not sure why people complain about the $15 entrance fee. How else are sanctuary’s supposed to afford to feed/upkeep animals and grounds? It was well worth it. Much better than seeing birds in tiny cages at a zoo.

The Xaman - Ha Aviary is really not worth the $15 dollar entrance unless you are really into birds and are willing to see one of the dirtiest aviaries I’ve ever seen, the place is not kept clean, some birds have signs of stress in their feathers and smells horrible throughout the whole aviary, some of the reviews are clearly lying on the condition of the place and I hope the authorities from Playa del Carmen impose rules and regulations to the owners so that the birds had a better place to live. Three starts for the birds and the owner cero

Nice place to see some beautiful birds and other wildlife. Facility provides mosquitoe repellent. You can spend 15 minutes or a few hours. Clean restrooms.
