Playa Maya by MIJ - Beachfront Hotel

We stayed at the Playa Maya by MIJ for two weeks in March 2022. The location is great, right at the beach and close to 5th but still almost quiet in the nights.
The rooms were very clean, thanks to the amazing cleaning ladies, who did a great job every day. Beach stuff (Pedro and his team) was also warm and welcoming. Breakfast was tasty but kind of repetitive (all kinds of eggs with toast). You can choose between coffee or tea and either fruit juice (not fresh) or fresh fruit as side dish.
Only annoying thing was that there is some kind of fan noise from the neighboring hotel, which is turned on sometimes at night for a few hours. Besides that we would recommend staying there.

Location is prime, the staff are lovely, helpful and accommodating, and the food is excellent. Just know before you go, however, that although they advertise as having a free breakfast, there are actually just 4 things on the breakfast menu that are free - eggs (with 1 thing mixed in), fruit, toast, and coffee. Also, a number of the rooms are not well-maintained - we had to move twice within a 5-day stay because of rampant mold in one and a serious leak in another (that room also had a little mold in the shower). However, they gave us 2 free upgrades, responded promptly to our requests, were extremely kind, and again, the food is la bomba. I highly recommend the pulpa a la diabla, the ceviche, and the huevos divorciados. Their restaurant is worth visiting even if you don’t stay there!

Good location on beach off Calle 8. Staff service by Alejandra and Antonia lead by Samanya, manager was excellent. Good breakfast served by Pedro and Damian. Good rooms.

Stayed here with 3 others and we absolutely loved it. The only drawbacks mentioned in other reviews - only being accessible by beach and no elevators - weren't an issue for our group.

The beach view was so beautiful through our window, the service was amazing by all. Everyone was so friendly! The location is also great - right off the main street but quiet at night. The included breakfast is so filling and gets the day off to the right start - I will be dreaming about taking my coffee while watching the sun rise over the ocean for years to come.

We will definitely be coming back to this place when we return to Mexico!

One of reason we booked was for the hot tub. Hot tub didn't work any three days there. No elevator to get to our third floor room. Had to walk on the beach with luggage to get to hotel. Would not stay again.

!!!AVOID AT ALL COST!!!

My friend and I had money stolen from our wallets left in the hotel room, various currencies totaling c200 USD. Hotel staff steal in a smart way, amounts that you may either not notice, or not be bothered to report. Amounts difficult to claim back via insurance due to excess. When we reported this to the Hotel management, they treated us in an appalling way. They lied that they checked CCTV. The manager admitted she had visited the rooms LOOKING FOR valuable items and taking pictures of guest possessions!!!!

When we were persitent in demanding this to be looked into, the manager threatened us and called the Police who are in cahoots with them (locals supporting locals). It's all an organised crime ring that's impossible to combat.

We were a couple with a child, experiencing the worst holidays every with dreadful treatment. Incredibly stressfull, humiliating experience.

We were even told to check out 2 days earlier because we were inconvenient to have around after raising the theft.

We reported this ourselves to the Police, and will be seeking recompense via Mij Hotels Europe.

Avoid like the plague!!!
