Really wanted to love it here but it was severely underwhelming. The location and rooftop view was the only thing good about it in my opinion. The hotel and room had a mildewing smell that I just had to get use to over my stay. Most of my problems lie with the staff and service. As an all inclusive guest, it felt like I was disregarded compared to other guests. Service was lacking tremendously. Staff was not very welcoming and it felt like I was burdening them to get service. Wasn’t given many details during check in, so I often found out more information from other guests like shuttle times and other resort offerings. It would take a while for them to come take my order and even longer to bring food out. Had to walk up to the bar on the rooftop several times to get the attention of waiters and the manager eventually caught on and took my order. It’s not even that they are understaffed, most of the waiters would be on their phones. While the food was plated nicely at the restaurants, it lacked flavor and seasoning so I found myself eating elsewhere most of my stay. I will say I had a better dining experience at The Reef Coco Beach (it’s sister hotel) when I went for a night. I will be returning to Playa Del Carmen as it’s a great city, but will be staying elsewhere.

Beautiful venue and good music HOWEVER, we were there for 2 hrs and it took that long to get two drinks, some nachos and sushi. We didn't go into the pool because it was small and packed ( we went on a Tuesday in the daytime so the roof wasn't really busy).

When we finally got to order, the food was terrible and drinks inconsistent. My friend and I ordered the exact same drink and they tasted completely different. Our food took about an hour to get to us and the nachos were cold and soggy. When I left our server know...(I'm not sure how she didn't because the plate was cold to the touch)..she asked "what I would like her to do about that".

My recommendation is that you go to enjoy the view and music...order a couple of beers and hope for the best. Otherwise there are far better food spots in Playa.

The Reef 28 is an amazing hotel. Me and my wife stayed there for the first week of July. From the second we walked through the front door we were greeted with great hospitality. we were given a tour (felipe) of the hotel restaurant, the spa, and the rooftop. The rooms were very spacious and modern. The staff does extensive cleaning throughout the day and even sanitizes the outdoor patio furniture daily. Before booking we saw people complaining about the food portions. Unless you're an over eater the portions are just fine and even if you want more you can simply order another portion and they will not give you a hassle. They are not stingy with the food or alcohol. One night we decided to trade shots so we asked the waiter if they could bring the entire bottle and without hesitation he delivered a brand new unopened bottle(Hornitos). Overall we give this hotel 5 stars we highly recommend The Reef 28 and we will be back in the future

Nice rooms, but overall, it was a positively mediocre experience. On our first day, they told us that they would like to offer us a tour of their sister hotel, so we could get to know the facilities and post about it on our social media. In exchange for that, they would give us breakfast at the sister hotel (even though breakfast was included in the package we originally bought) and an afternoon at the spa. When we arrived, we found out it was actually a 90-min time share pitch in which we had to have breakfast with an unknown lady (she was nice, to be fair) and then we had to endure more than an hour of hard sale techniques. Finally they took us to a loud room full of people sealing deals and popping champagne and a manager called Tomas came to our table. He gave us the price of the time share and when we said we weren't interested, he behaved extremely rude. He asked us if we didn't like to travel or if we were millionaires, because he couldn't possibly see another reason for us not wanting to buy the time share. When we repeated that we weren't interested, he basically told us off for wasting his time and finished with a "so now go and claim whatever gift we promised you". When we left, we were so shocked that we immediately complained at our hotel, and even though they told us they would speak to the manager, our complain was never truly acknowledged and the subject was never touched again during our stay. Other than that, the breakfast buffet was OK, but the service was really poor. During the four days we ate there only one of the waitresses tool the time to ask us if we wanted anything to drink and explained the different beverages they offer. The rest of the time we had a very hard time catching the attention of the waiters and had to wait for long periods to get coffee or water. Also, the roof top bar and pool is open to the general public, which meant that it was often overcrowded. The waiters there weren't attentive either and they never offered us towels or drinks unless we specifically asked for them. We had high expectations of the place, but now we are not looking forward to going back anytime soon.

My husband and I had an absolutely amazing stay here back in May! We have stayed at many resorts and this was one of our top favorites! The food, service, and drinks were amazing and you can’t beat the location! Walking distance to everything and they provide shuttles to and from their sister resorts which you can also take advantage of their all inclusive amenities. Thank you Reef28 for a perfect vacation!

Hotel is situated in a very good location with the beach and 5th Avenue are in walking distance. The staff at the hotel were kind for the most part. Food was decent, although food could take some time to get served especially during busy hours. It was not a big issue for us as were there on a vacation and not in a hurry to be somewhere. We enjoyed the time by ordering more drinks. Another con can be that there is noise from outside until 2 am but that is what you have to deal with for a good location such as this one. It was a pleasure to stay at the Reef 28 and maybe we visit again next time.

Went for my anniversary with my wife, beaches were nice minus the corpse weed. Roof top pool was amazing. The DJ at night was good. The shrimp burger was perfect. Being able to travel between the 3 REEF resorts made this so simple to get to the beach.
