$$$ Disappointed in this place and annoyed. Coffee is NOT good. Service very slow from the back. One waitress (our main one)was very friendly and helpful, everyone else is not very kind or welcoming. Very snotty dishonest behavior. Not sure if it’s because we are American, but I will never come back to this place and I’m telling friends and family to go elsewhere. The food is decent, but there are other places that are better that appreciate and want your business. The cashier added in pen to the printed check and told me that was the real total when the real total was above it stating 125 pesos less. She tried to make me pay a 20% tip still after I told her “no, I will be the one to decide the tip”. She was trying to take advantage thinking I don’t know how to convert pesos and US dollars and can’t add and subtract percentages. She argued with me again. She still argued saying we owe more money so I pulled out my calculator and added every item we ordered in front of her based on the prices they charged printed ON the check. Then I told her that Americans would tip more if you didn’t try to add and take advantage. I lowered the tip to 10% because they did this and we left. I was about to leave nothing but the one girl was nice to us. I wanted dessert, but changed my mind with all the poor treatment. The dishonesty of establishments that do this is disgusting and gives Playa del Carmen a bad reputation because many people don’t notice and end up tipping on top of their added tip or they see it and don’t want to argue. We usually tip way above 20% consistently, but doing this here makes me not want to tip nearly anything near 20% or anything at all. The next restaurant that does this to us, will get no tip at all.
Oh and also, this place is quite expensive compared to nicer restaurants, the air conditioner feels broken, the chips for the nachos were hard and very CHEWY, and the water is $2.50 for a small bottle USD!!!
This place could be so much more with a better wait staff and manager.
