As of July 29 2022 only one gallery of artifacts of actual culture is open. That displays artifacts from Monte Albany and is stunning. The ancient library was also open to the public, as were many . Spaces in the ex-convent in which the museum is housed but no displays of the cultures were open due to assessment that appropriate social distanced required by COVID rules could not be maintained. Also no access to the splendid botanic garden which could be seen from the windows.

HOWEVER it has a fantastic bookstore with books about art, history, culture and more. Large selection of children's books on a wide range of topics. The only postcards we saw during 5 days in Oaxaca, though most are of Frida Kahlo.

I happened to be there during the day of the dead festival. It was such a wonderful experience! I really love Oaxaca and will go back there at some point in my life.

Great Museum. I posted the correct hours, not sure if Google will change them. As of May 22 it is open Tuesday through Friday 10 - 15:00 Beautiful Building, small but important contents of Tomb 7 of Monte Alban

Not a review about the museum (we didn't get in), but about the service. NO BACKPACKS ALLOWED. And no cloak roam available. This is not clearly advertised. Secondly, only 40 people are allowed in every hour, but they let you queue in the sun anyway, knowing that you won't get in and then you're asked to keep on queueing for the next time slot (another hour). Big contrast with the great service provided at the Botanical Gardens one block away.

As of today, you can see all the Monte Alban Mixtec Tomb 7 gold artifacts (along with interactive displays), which are quite amazing and famous, as well as a large exhibit on the history of dogs and dog-art in Mexico and the hairless Xoloitzcuintle dog in particular, which arrived with the original natives. You can also wander through the halls and see the convent grounds, and take pics of surrounding area from upper floors. One of the top attractions in town (along with adjacent Cathedral) and absolutely worth a couple hours.

Building and museum is very interesting but not wheelchair accessible. You can enter the ground floor in a wheelchair but there’s not much to see. The nice parts are on the higher levels which cannot be accessed with a wheelchair. Staff is also neither helpful nor considerate.

85 mxn pesos per person bring exact change to avoid problems. Try to be there well before the hour so that you get a good spot in line for the tour. We went back multiple times before we were able to enter so try to plan your day around getting into the museum.
