I loved my stay at la casa casa!
I stayed twice within two months for a longer period of several weeks.
It's an old colonial house with beautiful details, a big, well-equipped kitchen and looots of good energy.
The rooms are spacious and bright, high ceilings, comfy beds, well- working fans and air con.
There is a rooftop and a little backyard with three cats that keep you company - only if you're up for it, no worries. They're outside.
But you're never alone ;)
What makes la casa casa special is the vibe of the people who check in there.
I met so many inspirational personalities, including the host, all with lives full of vibrancy, adventure and experiences. You hardly meet the "usual tourist" here.
Don't expect everything to be perfect or brandnew- there might be the odd bit of paint coming of a wall - it's not a neatly arranged hotel - and it is not a hostel either. Thank God.u2028u2028It is a house with a history and a vintage-like charm - every room is different and has beautiful colorful tiles - the whole style was special and unique to me. I simply felt utterly comfortable there because the place is a well of good energy.
People love to chat, exchange their visions and sit down to talk soul stuff as well :)
If you like open, warm-hearted and free-spirited people, do not hesitate to go there. Of course it all comes down to the bunch of people who stay around while YOU are there. There might be amazing people, there might be only a few at all, there might be couples who wanna stay to themselves. The place is full of warmth nevertheless. :)
There are not many cultural events going on yet - it is all in the making, I suppose.
It is the perfect place to retreat or to connect with travellers, just as you like. It is very quiet despite its 8 rooms - it is spacious enough and the people I met were very respectful and considerate of others' space.
If you have a problem with noise from the street or the cats singing a little "song" at night once in a while, I can only tell that I got used to it, I am a very light sleeper myself. This is Mexico ;) If it worries you, you may want to contact the host before you book, as the rooms are all little different and on different sides of the house. They will do everything there to make you feel comfortable and happy.
There is always filtered drinking water available, too, and you' ll get a plate of fresh fruit and coffee every morning . Thank you for that, guys!
I REALLY appreciated the clean water!! Floors and common bathroom are cleaned every single day and you can have your clothes washed if you like (extra cost).
The location is unbeatable, spot on ! Right around the corner of one of the most beautiful plazas, Santa Lucia. There are countless little coffee shops and restaurants around. It is about 10 min walk to the Gran Plaza and to the famous Paseo Montejo.
It felt so much like home to me - I loved the morning chats with the staff in Spanish as well.
Thank you, Emanuel and everyone who was around. It is my home in Mérida. :)
Hasta la próxima!
