The food is absolutely delicious. We walk by this place today and decided we should check it out this evening. Very glad we did. It was our best meal in Puerto Vallarta this week.

A beautifully renovated traditional mexican house from the tropics. All areas are open to a patio and it makes me feel like I'm at my grandmas house.
The staff is friendly and funny, making sure at all time to make you feel right at home.
I've been there only for breakfast and I was delighted to see they go past the "turisty" menu and offer authentic mexican dishes, again, I felt like I was at my grandma's house and kitchen.
I took my own bottle of raicilla (shown in the photo), so please do not expect to find the same brand in their stock.

They have had live music in the morning, when I've visited.

Great food and service. The fresh fruit margaritas and daiquiris are delicious. Lovely decor and clean restrooms. Very reasonably priced... especially for happy hour. We loved it so much we went 3 times in 2 days. I highly recommend La Hacienda de Carlota.

Tonight was the second time I've eaten at Carlota. The setting is beautiful, open air, lots of native plants... nice ambiance. The food, I'm just not crazy about. I don't feel like I'm getting a good value for my money.

The first time I visited, I ordered the crab enchilada. I did not like it. Not even a little. Two of my friends tasted it and didn't care for it either. It was left on the plate, barely touched. I figured it just wasn't my thing.

Fast forward a year. My friends wanted to go there again, so I figured I'd give it another shot.

Nope. No more. I ordered the chicken breast with pineapple. The pineapples were great, hard to mess up. The chicken was rather flavorful, but over cooked and dry. My companion ordered the Rib Eye. It was very thick and appeared juicy, but had very little flavor.

The thing about Puerto Vallarta is that there are a bazillion restaurants...a bazillion and 1...a crazy amount of eateries. Of all these restaurants, one can eat a meal costing less than $150 pesos, including a tip. The bill for two, with no alcohol at Carlota's was $800 pesos! Over the top for mediocre food. I'm just not sure what the draw is.

What a fantastic little gem we found in the busy and congested old town. I am a vegetarian and was nervous about finding something I could eat but the chef came out to ask what my restrictions are and made me an incredible dinner. Husband had delicious Mahi Mahi. Highly recommended.
