Just great tacos!!! We’ve tried quite a few places in Playa and this place rates the highest. The stewed tacos are absolutely to die for and the rellenos are the same. There is nothing to be said for the atmosphere as this is just a hole in the wall with great quality and service. The prices are a little higher than other places but the portion sizes make up for the difference in price. Be careful when you order as you can get way more than you expect.

Nowhere near Playa del Carmen’s tourist corridor, El Gran Taco is the sort of place that only those with a car and attuned culinary radar will discover, but for fans of Guisado there is no better place in town to tuck in amongst the locals.

Owned by a fourth generation restaurateur, her family recipes served up in a lot across from Sam’s Club from 8:30am until 4:30pm Tuesday through Sunday, it is from a fairly sizable menu that guests are asked to make choices, most items ranging 20-50 pesos despite sizable portions.

Open-air and no frills, housemade Carnitas a popular choice thanks to bits of skin chopped like North Carolina BBQ, diners are invited to choose from a half-dozen Stews offered daily, Potatoes and Pig in smoky Red Sauce deeply imbued with spice while Tripe in Salsa Verde balances richness with acidity.

Also home to Gorditas and Flautas, the former layered with Beans inside a crisp Masa pocket, guests with a bit of patience will also be rewarded by housemade Mole that is medium-thick and minimally sweet with plenty of earthy aromatics top Cheese Enchiladas.

April 2021: popular place locally. Super with a couple of caveats i will mention are end.
More variety of home cooking style tacos. I had green mole quesadilla, and green sauce enchiladas. They were great and tasty especially the green mole. My friend had flautas and Chile relleno ????. They were also great. They serve carnitas here. That's their flagship meat. You should try it. The service is super. They are always at your table picking up dirty plates and bottles. But also you feel that they w rushing you finish eating and get the hell out. because of the low capacity with covid-19,The line starts forming outside quickly. I can't blame them but it's not a nice feeling as a consumer. It reached a level that when you finish eating, they remove the napkin dispenser off the table. I consider that to be odd behavior by a restaurant.
Second thing, taco's price is equal to touristic area. Does not make sense and is not appreciated. If you are one of the lucky ones who are still open and busy in the pandemic but you are price gouging. I don't have respect for you. Maybe you can explain to your customers, we are all ears.

Congratulations, you have found the holy grail of tacos. This place has the best tacos in town, hands down. I'm a regular visitor and my taste buds love it each time.

I really liked the place. The food is excellent and the prices are more than fair. The service was very courteous throughout the time we stayed there
