Do you support animal abuse, modern day slavery, underage prostitution, noise pollution, bad customer service , being called a liar (when attempting to make a legitimate complaint), hotel staff (and owner/friends of owner drinking in lobby) and sleazy men? Then this will be the perfect place for you stay in Oaxaca.
Absolutely disgusted with the way we were treated - we were a group of 9. And the hotel owner managed to anger 9 people over a 3 day stay. This was not even an issue with the staff BUT the actual OWNER!
Upon arrival it appeared the hotel would be a suitable stay - but shortly our stay turned into a nightmare. After a long day of travelling in a car - we wanted to shower - the hotel is stated as having both hot and cold water. The mornings and evenings in Oaxaca are incredibly cold... so naturally you would want to use hot water. So we ran the hot water - after 10 minutes of running - nothing... we were then told to run it longer... 30 minutes later still nothing... frustrated but desperate for a shower we all let it go and showered - thinking it was just going to be a one off thing. Nonetheless, the cold showers remained and after numerous complaints and empty promises (that a repairman/plumber was coming to fix the boiler) NOTHING WAS DONE. The owner even tested the water and said he thought it was not cold. IT WAS COLD - and of a freezing cold. It was his opinion against 9 others. He even had the audacity to tell 9 guests - that we were lying, even after testing the water himself, which was obviously cold.
We would not have been so disappointed if the owner had taken responsibility and did not call us liars. It was very inappropriate. We also are not irrational people - if the hotel stated cold water only - we would not have complained. But the owners dodgy, dismissive and insulting behaviour - pushed us too far.
In regards to animal abuse - if you ever decide to stay at this below par hotel - you will notice that the owner has a very timid and evidentially abused Pit Bull. I only wish I had footage of the moment he grabbed the dog by its hind legs from under bench IN THE KITCHEN... and dragged the dog along the floor 4-5 meters in front of our group. The dog was resisting with all its might and shaking furiously... i noted it had crawled under the bench in fear of the owner...
Ahhhh now the prostitution... I have no qualms with legal, consensual and professional work... but upon returning one evening around 9-10pm .. IN THE LOBBY... where guests pass through... the owner had requested 2 girls whom could not have been of age and appeared to be underage prostitutes... sitting on the lounges intended for guests surrounded by the owner, his friends and sons... it was incredibly uncomfortable situation to pass... as they were drinking and smoking... the faces of the girls looked incredibly uncomfortable...
This drinking and partying in the lobby area (attached to the dining area and reception) were a reoccurring and nightly affair... the men he invites to the hotel look like thugs and involved in criminal activity... they make lewd stares at the women in our group and on occasions of the women passing through on their own - suggested they join their party...
You will note that there is staff member who does the majority of the work... cleaning, security, check in/out... EVERYTHING... for the whole entire HOTEL... attending to ALL guests... while the owner/boss... uses the hotel as his own personal lounge room... leaving mess also for this staff member to clean up... you will note how miserable this guy looks working there... it is incredibly uncomfortable to witness... we were in and out of the hotel over 24 hours, covering all hours of the day... and noticed that this guy did not stop working... if we had known before we would not have stayed... this is modern day slavery... it was evident he had no rest or breaks and was confined to the hotel...
I feel motivated to write this review so other tourists - do not have their trip spoiled. The photo attached is that of the hot water system...
