I always rent thru national. Just one of the best out there and always have a great experience. This time however I was not impressed. The general staff were amazing but the car was semi functional. I did rent the lowest tier so I sure wasn't expecting much. But when I went to shift into 2nd gear and the boot flies off what do you do? I was already running late and I didn't have time with the traffic to head back so I just drove it. I was able to reassemble it but it became an annoying part of my trip. The USB port was also broken.

Asceli and Alex were fantastic - on my first emerald experience, he swooped in and pulled me into a quieter check-in office with strong AC, was never pushy about extra insurance, walked me through the rental contract and set me on my way much faster than I ever could have expected. We had driven all around the peninsula during a big storm so the car was muddy on return and could have taken a while to check out, but Asceli swept in out of nowhere with a smile I could see through her mask and breezed me through after checking (there were no issues) and she bundled us into an empty shuttle to our terminal. I’ve only bad luck with car rental companies, as you can see from my reviews, but not anymore!

Simply amazing!! A great vehicle, great service and an easy process! What more could you want? Such a great team! Helped with everything we needed, including a toddler seat!

Very helpful and friendly. I had a booking through Hotwire which was not great and ignored some predictable charges. At the desk the assistant really helped to find ways to cut the costs on a great car.

A few troubles you should be aware of:

- credit card: if you don't have a credit card, and if you have a second driver who has it, you cannot use the credit card of the second driver. They only rent the car if the credit card is associated to the first driver/person who did the booking. Or they try to charge more money (if i remember correctly 50dollars per day) to use the credit card of the second driver.

- insurance u0026 thefts: we returned the car perfectly fine but unfortunately in Playa del Carmen someone stole all our 4 wheel rim covers. It is very disappointing that we had to pay 200euros because apparently robberies are not covered by the insurance. What is our fault? We also tried to replace them with non-original covers (25euros at autozone shop) but they weren't good. The robbery happened the night before the returning day, so we didn't have enough time for looking around for originals.

- poliza de seguro number: as soon as we discovered the robbery, we called the call center to check what to do. They asked the "poliza de seguro number" (or something like that) which was not in the papers they gave us (contract and car checklist). Make sure they give you this detail.

I had a great experience with the National’s car service. First great customer service from Gualberto when I came to pickup my car, he made it quick and easy. Then I had an accident where I called Gualberto. He was off the work still helped me to resolve the issue. Then Amy came for a help quickly. She guided me and helped me file a report for my collision. Not only that she also helped me to provide a new ride because I was 100km away from the location. She quickly sent a help to pick me up from the location. I also want to recognize Sandra who drove car to me and again back to Cancun. Overall, I had a great experience with them and I really want to thank Gualberto, Amy, and Sandra.
