One of my favorite experiences in San Cristóbal! Irma was amazing - during the market tour she was patient and super knowledgeable with all our questions, food or culture related. Then in the kitchen, she was so kind and funny as we tried to make tortillas and sopes together. I especially enjoyed the menu itself using ingredients that were not only delicious and local, but ones that I hadn’t yet tried. Plus we even got to try a little dessert which an experience all on its own! Loved Irma and loved the experience!

Cooking class - tortillas , Sope and market tour.

Irma is a lovely lady, and made the most incredible (from scratch - corn not corn flour) tortillas.

Didn’t realize how much better it tastes but so much effort to prepare !

The cooking class is very relaxed and not commercialized. Irma does a lot of the work so if you want to be super hands on and cook “everything” this won’t be it. Which is what I usually prefer.

We had an amazing time in the beautiful complex and was able to hang out for a couple more hours yet. This is my dream home !

I am a student spending time in San Cris for awhile, and this is by far my favorite thing I've done while being here. We did the tamales class and got to make four different kinds (each of which were delicious). Additionally, we did the market tour and were guided through Mercado Viejo. If you haven't been to this market, I would recommend adding this to your time with El Tzitz. I did the class with my parents and they do not speak any Spanish but had an incredible time all the same. The group was about 7 people and that was the perfect size to gather around the table and each of us got to participate in multiple tasks. Genuinely I can't recommend the class enough. If you want a hands on informational cooking class in San Cris, you have to do El Tzitz.

I did the market tour and chile rellanos (stuffed peppers) class with Irma. I like the fact that the first person to sign up gets to choose the menu! I happened to be the only participant, so that was an added bonus! I met Irma at the cooking school, which is a beautiful space. From there we walked to the nearby market to pick up ingredients for the day's class, and Irma helped me get a few other things I needed there. It was informative. The cooking itself took nearly three hours. It was hands-on, but I wish I got to do a bit more. I enjoyed learning the cooking techniques. She was accommodating to my diet and menu requests, and the resulting food was very tasty. Irma speaks a good amount of English, but still spoke in some Spanish throughout.

I had any incredible time! I debated signing up for weeks, and I'm so happy I did! The food was delicious, I learned how to make four different tamales. Irma explained everything we were doing and answered the questions I had. The location is also just incredible! I'll definitely being doing another class when I'm in San Cris again. Can't recommend enough!

Wonderful class. I was amazed how much work goes into making tortillas! I have a new appreciation for my beloved chilaquiles! We learned how to make them with both red and green sauce. I will make the sauces at home and I am sure I will have many uses for them.
The tortilla chips will come from the store!!????
