Bela’s is a really special place high up in the mountains of Chiapas. It’s fabulously located near the main drags of San Cristóbal and has all the comforts of home including a beautiful garden, fabulous food, hot water (sometimes a miracle in Mexico), great book selection and the worlds sweetest dogs. Bela invites all her guests to sit down together with her staff for a family style meal once a week. After a month we felt like old friends. It’s an oasis after a busy day touring and a little piece of paradise if you want to just sit and read a book for the day. I can hardly wait to go back.

I was one of the first guests at Bela’s Bu0026B in 2006 and I return as often as I can. Located in the historic heart of San Cristóbal, it’s an easy walk to fabulous restaurants, craft markets and historic sites. Bela is attentive to every need of her guests and knowledgeable about local history and the attractions of San Cristóbal and environs. Rooms, beautifully decorated with local crafts and textiles, are arranged around a lovely garden. Breakfasts are fantastic—fresh fruit, homemade granola, eggs cooked to your preference, served in the dining area overlooking the garden. For a modest charge, guests can often arrange to share a family-style comida with Bela, her friend and fabulous cook, Manuela, and whatever interesting guests turn up.

Stay at Bela’s Bu0026B was delightful--highly recommend this Bu0026B!

We were warmly welcomed and felt at home and everything about our stay was delightful, comfortable, and easy: quick response to inquiries and good directions before we arrived; spotlessly clean rooms decorated with local textiles; coziness and quiet in the heart of a big city; interior courtyard and outdoor spaces lined with lush gardens and plantings.

The beds were super comfortable and we slept deeply and well. Breakfasts were delicious and filling . Best of all, the company of host Bela and guests was like being with old friends—eager to catch up over wide-ranging conversations and a great source of tips on things to do, places to see, and local happenings.

Bela's Bu0026B has so very much to offer guests to San Cristobal. Centrally located in a peaceful and pleasant part of the city, this peaceful and lovely Bu0026B (woman owned) is an easy walk to all central locations, the mercado, the textile museum, the cathedral, and the sights and fine dining of downtown. The spotless and comfortable rooms are located around a breathtaking garden, each room featuring fine local arts and crafts. The breakfast room looks out at the garden and offers delicious fresh breakfasts in relaxed and friendly company. Bela's on site assistant Audrey, bilingual in English and Spanish, is well informed about local tours, events, and places of special interest to each guest. Books about San Cristobal and Chiapas, as well as interesting fiction, nonfiction and fine arts, are in ready access for guests. The family living on site is friendly and kind. I felt welcome and at home when I came through the door. Whether you are new to Chiapas and Mexico or an experienced Mexico traveler, you'll appreciate all that Bela's Bu0026B offers.

We had a wonderful time at Bela’s bnb! The staff was very friendly, a family of locals, and our host Bela gave lots of tourist tips and we had wonderful conversations. The bnb space itself has a very interesting history, and felt like a fairy garden with books! Bela is a fascinating lady with lots of stories and extensive knowledge of Chiapas / San Cristobal area. I would definitely recommend this place for families and solo lady travelers!

I think that Bela’s is the most beautiful Bu0026B I have ever stayed in - first in 2008, and again 12 years later, in January 2020. Beautiful, comfortable rooms surround a lush fragrant garden. Breakfasts are delicious. Bela and her assistants are welcoming, warm and helpful. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.

My wife and I have stayed at Bela's several times since it opened in 2006, most recently in January 2020 along with another couple. It is a homey, beautiful, tranquil oasis in the heart of San Cristobal, half a block away from the big craft market, a major shopping street, and restaurants, and a few blocks from the Zocalo. Bela is a wonderful hostess, Manuela's cooking is great, and the guests are an interesting bunch. Easy to get to from Tuxtla (Bela will arrange a car), and a great jumping-off place for exploring the rich culture and history and beautiful landscape of Chiapas. We are waiting for the pandemic to die down a bit more, but will definitely be going back.
