What an uniquely incredible experience. Everything about this restaurant was thought out impeccably, down to the water. We were served two fermented drinks which were absolutely delicious and paired between certain courses in addition to a flavoured water that complemented the entire meal. We were surprised that it just kept going, but always happy! The food was interesting, surprising, and perfectly balanced. The flavours of the food were perfect in small portions and I can honestly say I haven’t tasted anything like it, even if I wouldn’t necessarily want a larger plate. The ambiance was stunning and service was friendly and prompt. While it was an expensive meal in comparison to other places in Oaxaca, something this thought out and well-executed is assuredly worth the money.
It’s also worth noting that they were able to adjust the food to no fish due to a personal preference on the fly and still create a meal that progressed like a song! Left full, happy, and reeling from the beauty of the experience!
CASH ONLY

Personalized happiness - that's what this is!
The place is small, just a handful of tables, with an equally small staff (affect, it's two peoples in the kitchen, and one serving).
But boy howdy, is the food ever good! It's a fixed menu (adjusted for allergies), with a bunch of small portions. I hesitate to call it a "tasting menu", as it's basically small portions of excellence based on what they've managed to get at the market. You're never stressed out at the prospect of having to force Yet Another Course down your gullet, and you'll leave feeling happy!

The staff is kind, friendly, and basically, make you feel like you're at home.
This is, easily, the best dining I've had in Oaxaca City...

The food here was delicious, creative, and beautifully presented, but the experience fell short of excellent because the portion sizes were so small. (Yes - I understand it’s a menu degustación with many small tasting plates, we’ve had these many times at other places.) But here we walked out of our dinner literally still hungry, and had to have a second dinner at a taco restaurant nearby. So this was more like an appetizer experience, and a very good one. But for 1,000 pesos (around US$50) we should really feel like we’ve had a proper meal. I hope the restaurant will consider adding something like a substantial rice dish that might make the otherwise wonderful experience feel more like a meal.

Can honestly say this was one of the best meals of my life. The food was unexpected, subversive, innovate, and of course, delicious. The tasting menu is constantly changing so don't expect to find the same dishes even within the same week. I can tell this restaurant is going to win some serious accolades.

My wife and I had one of the best meals of our recent trip to Oxaca. Beautiful little restaurant in a beautiful city. The food was delicious. The food was gorgeous.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming and you could tell they were proud of the food.
A fantastic blend of modern and traditional Oxacan from a kitchen run by indigenous chef Toño Garcia.
He obviously has an advanced palate and cares a great deal about his food. We will definitely return the next time we are in Oxaca. And I would recommend Tika'aya to any and all visitors.

The best food in Oaxaca. This is not a light statement to make, because Oaxaca has some of the most wonderful food anywhere. But this is it. The tasting menu included drinks for the first few courses (including atole, kombucha, and all you can drink of their house water) which were all such amazing accompaniments to the dishes served alongside them. The service from our waiter Athre was amazing, he was excellent at explaining each course. And of course, the FOOD. The menu changes every 2 weeks and is based off of what the chef finds in season at the market. So different than anything else I have had while still being so authentically Oaxacan. This was by no means a pretentious tasting menu (of, I think, 6 courses + dessert) experience either. It felt like a true connection between us (the eaters) and the chef. You’ll actually basically walk into the kitchen if you head to the restroom! If you’re in Oaxaca, make a reservation u0026 come eat here.

Traveling around the area, we have enjoyed these local ingredients in their more traditional renditions, so it was delightful to see them reimagined and paired in unexpected ways (espazote risotto!). Speaking Spanish, I enjoyed the thorough descriptions of each dish provided by the server.

We did not have a reservation and were the only people in the restaurant at 5:30pm (admittedly an early dinner) on a Wednesday. The quiet location and earthy interior design enhances our focus on the flavors and colors of each dish.

Do note that they are CASH ONLY. I do wish they would disclose this, as well as the price of the meal. On this particular night it was 950pp, so we had to scramble to combine all our bills when the check came, though I had hoped to treat for my mother’s birthday. They were kind enough to offer to accompany me to an ATM, however.

At this price I would also love if they could provide a menu. They recite 5-10 ingredients and it’s a little difficult to remember as you are experiencing of the seven dishes.

Overall a cozy, and unique experience outside of the main zocolo area.
