Commonly called the Rufino Tamayo Museum because the famous artist bought artifacts for their artistic value and not their archeological value. I go three or four times a year if we're not having virus hysteria. The photo is of an object almost life size.

Great collection of pre-hispanic artifacts. Presented more for an aesthetic quality than a normal museum. Lovely building to relax in as well. Sunday seemed to be half price day.

This was one of the highlights of my trip to Mexico. I believe you can't really know a country unless you study its history. This museum gave me a huge boost in my knowledge of Mexico. One of the great things about this museum, over almost any other I've visited in Mexico, is the English language printed paper guides that they provide in each room. They describe virtually every item in the museum. Actually, without them, I probably wouldn't have understood, or therefore enjoyed, the museum very much. If you want to really experiance this place pick up a guide as you enter each room and proceed via its order. I don't know if admission is always free but it was today.

Do not miss this place! Much better collection of precolombian claywork than Museo Amparo. There is a lot to see here.
