I had the mushroom lasagna and a maracuyá aqua and my partner had the bolognese lasagna, we switched plates halfway... and wished I had finished with the championes. No bread, but big portions, so no room really for the bread anyway. Couldn't fit another thing. Feeling grateful, It was that good.

I should have taken a picture but I was too busy enjoying both the food and the company. This was my first visit but not my last. My friend and I each got one of the two specials of the day. We started with a salad of marianated cauliflower, olives, and other veggies in a slightly picante sauce. Excellent. Then I had chicken with portbello mushrooms with a sweet sauce on a bed of rice. For dessert, we had coconut ice cream with a mango sauce. It cost $97 pesos.

My friend had a fish fillet with artichoke hearts and a light sauce on a bed of rice. I tasted her fish and she tasted my chicken and we both would have been delighted with either entre.

Google maps didn't say when they opened and I got there at 1:30. They weren't open. They saw me sitting on the step, said they opened at 2:00 and opened the doors and let me in to wait for my friend. Service was polite and well-done. Sadly, we were the only customers.

I'm looking forward to my next visit. I'll take pictures next time. But, here's another picture from Santo Domingo Church to hold you till I go back to Maiz Pilao.

Came here for a three course lunch which was delicious!!! The dessert was a frutos rojos sorbet with red wine reduction ????. Incredible. I can't wait to swing by for more of these lunches ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The food is an inspired and surprising mix of Venezuelan and Mexican cuisine. We've been twice so far and have had wonderful service and delicious food elegantly presented in a comfortable and beautiful space. Everything from the duck tacos to the lasagna to the arepas are rich and flavorful. This is one of our favorite spots in Oaxaca.

I arrived on a rainy Oaxaca Saturday at 830pm and I was the sole diner in this 6-table “spontaneous urban kitchen” as they call themselves. On the positive side: (1) the dining room has a hip city vibe which is punctuated with the architecture and the location. (2) the menu is simple yet diverse. (3) I had a well-presented lasagna bolognese introduced with a few corn fritters and a sweet-and-fiery condiment. (4) the portion was large and flavorful. On the negative side: (1) the corner location is literally 6-7 feet from street traffic with all its horns and howls. (2) I would’ve preferred some soft-medium volume Latin pop or even something symphonic over the blasting Freddy Mercury and Queen. Here they’re trying too hard. (3) the fritters were far tastier than the Apple-based spicy salsa. But either way- just give me a simple piece of bread with the lasagna I ordered- for goodness sake! (4) the lasagna employed at least one cheese that was a bit overpowering. (5) the waiter(s) delivered the food and the check when I asked for it but never checked on me beyond that. There was only 1 diner in the whole place but they were apparently too occupied behind the counter to visit my table. So in summary, I give it four stars because the place is clean, well decorated and has at least one tasty entree. The loud rock music might be a treat for some diners and the indifferent table service might simply be how urban hip restauranteurs function these days. Try it and see what you think.

Great new addition to the Oaxaca food scene! Food is upscale, but not pretentious and the space is open and nicely appointed. We tried the crema de calabaza soup, duck tacos and the pork belly and banana sandwich. All were awesome, but damn, that sandwich was money!

Take the time to find it, definitely worth it!

A small out of the way treasure of a place. Imagine haute cuisine on a backpacker budget served by folks who are as excited by the creation and serving of food as you are in indulging in it. Local flavours with a very international and modern twist. A fine place. Don't miss it.
