From the outside this place looks like a total tourist trap, but after scouring the mercado and other stores around the city, I found La Casa de las Artesanías de Oaxaca to have the best variety and really good prices to boot!

You can find just about any handicraft from Oaxaca here with reasonable prices and good quality. Be aware that the green-glazed pottery we bought here is NOT lead-free and should be treated as purely decorative. We tested ours with a 3M Lead Test back in the states and it popped positive immediately.

It was a lot of fun shopping here. Lots of little interconnected rooms each with their own craft. Staff is super friendly and will take the items you want to buy to the front check out and sort of keep a tab going for you. It makes it easy to shop around and have your items waiting to be purchased all at once. Very affordable and price tags on everything.

Quirky store with a better offering than the markets we visited. Its a nice little place to pop in while you wander around town.

I was pleasantly surprised at this artisanal market. There are real artisanal products. Even a person weaving on a traditional wooden weaving machine. Better than any “artisanal” market I have seen elsewhere. Highly recommended

Amazing selection of handcrafted items, like a museum as well as a shop. I was expecting it to be very expensive but actually I saw some of the cheapest Alebrijes and black clay artesanías in the whole of Oaxaca city.
