Hotel Nacional gets five stars. The people here are great and helpful. The place is immaculate and everything you need, shampoo, water and so on, is provided in abundance. And since people worry about this, the people who enter your room are honest. You can safely leave stuff in your room. Everything will be there when you get back.

The hotel is located exactly in the midst of the thronging Centro and is just blocks from the Zócalo and historical center of Oaxacan reality. There are churches, chapels and cathedrals sufficient no matter how intensely religious you may be. There are chocolate and mole factories right across the street and, fortunately, a bar right next door and a bunch of nice shops selling stacks of animal guts a block away.

This is where Oaxaca happens. It pretty much goes right to 9 pm and then sleeps. The Hotel Nacional is a great place from which to experience all this. There's always a boy at the front door selling uninflated balloons piled on a blanket. Where else but at the Nacional could you stay with a constant source of balloons at hand.

Great spot and location, our room with a balcony was a tad tight for space with a huge bed :) (size of two singles) and just a little door into the bathroom but surprisingly not so much noise from the street. We moved to the ground floor for an extra night and it was a bit loud trying to sleep with street noise and someones music or tv but it did settle and that room was really lovely too nice and spacious with a big bathroom very clean hotel and lovely lovely staff ???? nice terrace not much of a view but you can look around and see the sunset behind the hills

The place is centrally located across from the mercado. It's clean, neat, and staff was friendly.
The rooms are extremely small, and we had trouble finding space to even open luggage.
Wifi really sucked in beginning, and at midpoint of our stay they switched to better one. Note that wifi is mostly in public spaces only.
As other reviewers said, it's only a place to crash at night, this is not a place to hang out. But it is clean and for a reasonable price.

Very disorganized front desk. They were holding our room without payment (even though we offered to pay several times and were told it was no problem). Then the owner comes along and makes matters worse by renting our room out from under us while we were out on a tour. So now we had to figure out a new place to stay on the fly.

Then, in comes another customer that also had this room rented out from under him. And he was extra upset because the wine reason he rented the room in the first place was for the room with the balcony, which the owner forced the reception staff to rent out without notifying the guest.

I love Oaxaca and Mexico, but this kind of disorganization should not be rewarded.

For a 1 star hotel, this place is fine. It's clean, cheap, secure and close to the Zocalo. It's not a place you'll want to spend your day, but good enough to sleep and keep your belongings while you explore this culturally rich place.

Staff was very helpful and kind. Rooms, although worn out a bit, were clean. Close to the city center, street food vendors and market.

Great location, low price small rooms, no internet connection in the rooms only at the terraza and lobby. Problems with hot water pressure at the 3rd floor. Near to everywhere.
