I was there with my friend from USA and both of us, rised in different cultures on completely different continent's have the same feelings about that place: great spot to grab a drink, service is wonderful! Those people, whole team make such a good job, perfectly take care of customers, are honest, sweet and always around if you need something.
But they never gave me feeling that they are insistent or something.
If somebody is planning to spend time in Mexico city it would be place which i recommend as first (and last cause it's worth to come back there ;)).
I truly hope I'll have occasion to visit it again in future! :)

Great place to stop for some drinks and appetizers. Try the mezcal mixed drinks. We got lucky and theres was a lady giving out tequila samples! Theres indoor and outdoor sitting. The mezcalita de guayaba was my favorite.

If you speak English, they will force you to leave a big tip and tell you it’s mandatory in Mexico. Otherwise, they won’t let you leave. While they don’t not ask locals to do the same

Very slow service. You have to look for waiting staff. You become invisible. Pudding takes almost half a hour to arrive, think they simply forget me. When paying the bill, no word of thank-you, and when leaving they, including manager, simply turn their back on you. Awful experience.

Though most people would only come to La Federal in a Thursday or Friday night with their work buddies, I would come here at any moment. First and most important, 2x1 in drinks (except wine, beer and cocktails) everyday, anytime. Food is great. They have a small but enjoyable menu. I definitely recommend the "costra" (fried cheese with beef or chicken). Fajitas are great, along with the cecina. Tuna tostadas aren't the best in town, but very well prepared. I believe Thursdays and Fridays there are mariachis to sing along with. Great place for foreigners willing to try Mexican food, drinks, etc, but who want to stick around at Reforma area.

Eating at the The Federal really made our last night in Mexico City. Having read a couple of reviews this looked like a good choice near our hotel. They have a great open front on a quiet street, we sat at the front under cover. Initially it looked like we were in for a bit of a challenge as the menu was only in Spanish and our waiter didn’t speak English. This was soon solved as one of his colleagues spoke good English and made some excellent recommends. My wife had octopus on a bed of mash - which tasted devine. I went for rib eye tacos, which were also fantastic.

The moment we got to the door we were welcomed with the best service! The staff was fantastic and the food was even better. The flavors in every dish were executed perfectly. The server recommended drinks that were delicious and unexpected because one of them was in a huge glass jar for the price of a regular drink. Will definitely return soon!
