Because the paint and fungus was falling from the ceiling, and absence of water pressure which made it almost impossible to take a shower I rate this stay 2 stars.

The place has a great potential because it could be beautiful but the pictures are not exactly what you get. The breakfast was decent and the staff very friendly. During breakfast you can see the turtles in the patio have their own breakfast which is very cute.

If they fix up the room and the water pressure it will be a nice play to stay!

Really cool place!
I came there for a few nights, everything was very high maintained – utilities like bathroom, kitchen, gym and pool were super clean...

The hostess is very nice. She speaks great English and recommened us some awesome cenotes and beaches :)
+ there were some Yogau0026meditation lessons when we were there

Well don’t really know how to begin with…

The real great location in Merida’s city centre is definitely the only advantage of this establishment.

The rest speaks by itself.
Dirty room, cockroaches literally everywhere, a mattress which has both holes AND stains.
I would not recommend this place, unless a profond cleaning and renewing is operated.

Don’t be fooled by the dated pictures.

Hey I'm an old fuddy-duddy so take my criticism with a Werther's Original but I found this place a bit too dark, cramped, hot and full of biting insects for my tastes. The shower in my dorm was a slippery death-trap. I had to leave a day early as I had upwards of 30 bites mostly on my back (bed bugs?).

I can see some people liking it. The central atrium is very beautiful and relaxed, the main receptionist/hostess is lovely, and they have turtles.

Personally, it's almost a week since I left for a posh hotel and I'm still recovering from the ordeal.

The vibe is so renewing. They offer a great continental breakfast and staff is very chill. You can hang out and unwind or explore the local area which is booming with people and businesses and amenities including Oxxo's on every corner, restaurants, shops, laundry, and culture. A horse drawn carriage is seen riding around the park and the Centro part of town in general.

The best hostel in Mérida! No doubt of it,
not only the place, but the amenities and the friendly and charming staff.
The hostel is well located, just a few blocks away from the main square and the city government palace which is the heart of downtown where you can get tours, museums, restaurants and bars so easily.
the breakfast is really really nice and the social areas are amazing, the poolside is way large and beautiful, and the entire place is calmed due to the wide walls which literally block the noisy traffic that it could be during the day away, so you can read, you can meditate, you can work in calm, you can have fun, you can enjoy in a relaxing way.
The peace you feel there and the experiences you could have from there is absolutely priceless!

An advice for beginners travelers who don't really know how hostels are for
Hostels aren't places for every kind of people who aren't used to traveling, hostels are for adventurous people who know how to travel, hostels are for true travelers.

Thank you so much for everything CASONA HOSTEL BOUTIQUE, you are absolutely the best!

It’s a no from me. The place has potential but the atmosphere is just as gloomy as the dorms.
The receptionist was really nice and patient as I was trying to decide if I want to stay or not( I am usually not so picky but I just thought all the dorms were smelly and shady so I took a lot of time), but the overall atmosphere was just so sad and unwelcoming. And it is not covid’s fault. I have been to many hostels in covid. It seems that there are maybe people staying there for a long time that treat the place like their personal space and do what they want.
Also the hostel desperately needs a fresh coat of paint.
the main space is really beautiful( do not expect much from the pool though-not clean and it’s in shade so no sunbathing) but the dorms are really wet and the smell stays in your nose. The bunk beds are so low in the aircon dorm that you can barely sit. And all in all the rooms are very small and dark, and the bigger rooms at the back that have no aircon( which I usually prefer) were both very hot and smelly, albeit bigger.
The breakfast was good and this is why I give 3/5.
I already know that there are many nicer options in Merida but I can not mention them here.
All in all the place has potential and maybe used to be a good hostel but in 2020 this is not the case.
