Hotel Viva Villahermosa

We stayed at the hotel for 12 nights. The rooms are very spacious and clean. Our room came with a coffee maker, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, safe, soap, and shampoo. Each room has its own balcony. The parking lot is lit at night and secure. We ate at the hotel. The food was delicious and priced reasonably. The hotel is located within walking distance to the Olmec stones museum.

This deserves to be listed as a 3 or 4 star hotel, not just 2 stars, in my opinion. It is not a new hotel, but the public areas are elegant, the pool is beautiful, front desk service is prompt and friendly, and the restaurant and room service are very good. On our trip to Villahermosa we have stayed in two different "3 star" hotels and in Hotel Viva. Of the three, Hotel Viva is the best by far. Warning: Google Maps gives you directions to the back side of the hotel. The real entrance is on the main highway, across from Office Depot. Ample parking.

Hotel itself is good. The pool area is awesome. The restaurant however was not good. We recieved steak the first night and shrimp empanadas. My husband ended up with food poisoning and just ruined the next say when we had a bunch of errands to run in Villahermosa. Just disappointing as it ruins the experience. Also, frustrating as everytime we have had food poisoning in Mexico it has been at hotels, no matter a 2 star or slightly star. Just a good reminder to not bother eating at the hotel restaurant no matter how convenient.

The room was clean although the air-conditioner leaked water and I think smelled of mold. The hot tub had no water in it. The staff was very good and helpful. I think there would have been no problem for an English only speaker as they had many people who spoke English well. Breakfast was quite good and I would recommend it.

Sleep and breakfast, we didn't have enough time to swim so based on my experience I can give four stars the hotel is a little old fashioned but the employees were very courteous and helpful at all times. Especially during breakfast.

The restaurant service is terrible! The waiters did their best to ignore us, it was bizarre. We complained to the front desk but I doubt they did anything about it. It's an old hotel and it shows. Go anywhere but here.

Cleanliness was good, and especially for the price. We didn't realize our stay hadn't included the breakfast, so that was extra. Helpful staff and good parking. Would stay again.
