Cuenta con 6 salas permanentes y una temporal; se comunica y es complemento del museo "José María Velasco".

Felipe Santiago Gutiérrez fue el primer artista mexicano en recibir un galardón internacional.

Se le conoce como Museo del Retrato, el cual fue inaugurado en 1992 y presenta la obra de artistas contemporáneos. Una de las obras más importantes que se exibe es "La Cazadora de los Andes" El primer desnudo femenino de la plástica mexicana.

No cuenta con estacionamiento propio pero hay uno muy cerca del mismo. En el mes de octubre de 2021 la entrada sigue siendo gratuita.

Se restringen tomas fotografías por seguridad de la obra.
