I booked the place reading about it on NYT article (It seems to have bought them a lot of business, another gentleman who writes for a travel website whom I met there, also picked the place based on reading about it on NYT). I was torn between the two mentioned in the article and decided on Stella- bad mistake.
The rooms are dingy and small. I was staying in a double bed and even this was too small. It was noisy and hot with not not even a ceiling fan. To make it worse, there were mosquitoes plenty and could not sleep the first night. They arranged for a floor fan the next day, which was nice, at least I could not hear the mosquitoes. Other people I met also had the same complaints. To be fair, the bed was comfortable and clean.
The breakfast was major disappointment. It mentions one Mexican dish every day, but all they made was omlet along with one fruit and toast. One day there was no milk and the next day, there was no butter for the toast. They did not even make an attempt to get it. You can get better breakfast at Days inn.
The service staff were friendly but there is only person in the morning and seemed to have hard time between cleaning rooms and taking care of the breakfast and was hard to find. She was friendly but does not speak English. Next person comes later but mostly stays at the desk and answers to questions asked and not much more.Internet is superslow and goes missing so often.
The neighbourhood is super nice but it is hard to justify paying nearly $100 for the kind of room and service . Also, they say they will charge 19% extra for taxes if you pay with credit card (does that mean they don't pay taxes if you pay with cash?)
Hate to put in a bad review, but as a traveler, you do not want to end up disappointed and I wish I had known all this before I booked the place.
