Great service from victor! If you plan on driving around I highly recommend the Suzuki jimny. We had this car for 6 days and really enjoyed it.my only complaint is the car was filthy upon pick up, I had it detailed and looking like new for around 1k pesos.

Eduardo Diaz y Edel Rojas were great, 100% actually do recommend this company. First time there are no hidden fees if you threw their web page.

I rented a car from this location the morning of Friday 16APR2021.
Fabian was professional and processed my contract, based on his quote and needs that I shared with him when I visited America Car Rental (ACR) for the first time on the afternoon of the previous day, Thursday.

After reviewing the actual specs of the vehicles, I realized, that the car size I actually needed was not available in a Compact, so I upgraded to the next level of vehicle which I believe is a Sedan. I was given a few choices which included the Chevy AVEO or SONIC and requested a Chevy Sonic which needed to be ordered. I agreed to come back the next morning after paying in full for the three rental weeks in addition to providing a $300 deposit to reserve the car.

The only discrepancy during the contract process, was a document that they wanted me to sign, that stated I would be responsible for any additional items which I questioned as being a signed "Blank Check" despite the insurance and deposit that they had charged me for. His colleague Isaac, who had arrived in the office by this time, explained it was to cover damage to the car, and something that needed my provision in the end, since no billing information, such as a credit card slip, was retained. I initialed but remain a bit concerned due to reviews warning about additional charges when returning the car, yet I am hopeful the billing will be as quoted.

The acquisition of the car was quick and although the car had some minor cosmetic body damage, mostly on the hood and rear bumper - Isaac "marked" everything on the paperwork which I still backed-up with my own pictures just in case of any discrepancies with the pen scratches on the car diagram in the contract. I received the AVEO although I requested the Chevy Sonic due to having slightly more trunk space.

The car sounded like it was running well but the tires are a bit bald. After getting familiar with the features and functions of the car, I proceeded to CHEDRAUI Selecto, 5 minutes away, to purchase a booster seat for my daughter since it would be cheaper than the extra 3000+ pesos it would have cost me to rent.

This is where things started taking a "turn"...
I pulled out of the Rental car place onto Kukulcan avenue to head to Chedraui Selecto 5 minutes away, there was a Metro Police pick-up driving behind me the entire time without incident. I pulled into the parking in front of Chedraui but did not find the seat so I headed to Plaza las Americas instead. On the way there I was pulled over by a Motorcycle Officer who told me a traffic cone had become dislodged from the vehicle and that because it could have caused an accident he would need to hold the vehicle AND my passport until the fine of 2300 pesos was paid. He explained it was a formality because of the traffic cameras overhead. I explained to him I needed to pick-up my wife and daughter to take her to her dentist appointment and could not be late. He said he could take the payment then and there. I gave him the 2000 pesos I had just taken out at Chedraui, a second officer showed up and handed me an old traffic cone which I put in the trunk of the rental before they sent me on my way without a receipt. I began recording my drives.

Saturday morning I stepped out for breakfast with my wife and daughter and were returning to the hotel zone and passing by a police checkpoint. Out of five cars I was travelling in line with I was asked to pull over and told that I was speeding even though I was not. I explained to the officer I was recording my speed with a phone app I use and he sent me on my way after showing me pictures of accidents on his cellphone. My wife noticed he looked at the American Car Rental sticker that is on the front and back bumper. I quickly realized this was like an invitation for a “mordida” which I found out in the Google Reviews is the term for police shakedown in Mexico.

I called ACR and told them how stressful this is, they told me I could not remove the stickers but provided an email to which I am sending a link to this post. I will update.

Booked online for an automatic vw. Called up to check if in stock they said yes. Also booked hotel pick up. No show from the car rental company on the day and had to call 2-3 times finally they sent a driver over. No automatic vw in stock but got “upgraded” to a chevy saloon manual which was 2 grades more expensive on the site but paid the same amount. Car was well used and had plenty of dents and scrapes but drove smoothly and perfectly. We enjoyed a week driving to tulum and back and and fell in love with the car sad to return it. Jose luiz manager at plaza flamingo mall was nice and easy to deal with and his colleague was very friendly and chatty. Around 400£ GBP deposit on credit card and £135 for 5 days for car rental with all cdw insurance included. Fuel is cheap around 80pence a litre. You just have to give it back with the amount you take it with. At the office, they Tried to sell me tyres and glass insurance but i declined. On the way back the Handover was smooth and they dropped me to the coach station for 300 pesos. Advice then, go in person always to book and expect changes to your booking and be flexible. Dont try to plan too accurately as you just cant rely on things running as orderly as in Europe or the states! People at this branch are nice would use them again!

Terrible experience! Booked online, ordered the insurance that was supported through their site...get here and they don't accept that insurance and had to pay from them at the store...only to find out it is the same company...had to pay twice! Phone support is awful, service is worse, terrible prices. Many people just left because of the price increases were astronomical.

Returning our car is terrible, several people who have been waiting for their car that isn't available, rude service. Find somewhere else. This was a terrible way to begin the trip.

America Car Rental, Cancun - FRAUD ALERT
Better Business Bureau TAKE NOTICE.

Here is how they scammed me:

THE CURRENCY SWITCH
AMERICA CAR RENTAL (ACR) will promise you a daily rate for the car in US$ for a very good EXCHANGE rate - say 22 pesos per US$, which is posted on the wall on a large sign.
But when you sign the credit card slips they will charge your credit card in Mexican Pesos where you pay the normal exchange rate - say 19 to 20 pesos.
THIS ADDS 10-15% TO THE ILLUSIONAL US$ DAILY RATE THEY PROMISED YOU.
Some US or foreign credit cards may also charge you and additional 2%+ for charges in foreign currency.
Fortunately my Bank of America - Travel Rewards card does not PLUS they apply an honest exchange rate.

THE DAILY RATE THEY PROMISE IS NOT WHAT THEY ACTUALLY CHARGE
The daily rate ACR promise for the car INCLUDES total insurance coverage except for hubcaps and minor scratches.
Note: ACR will not allow you to use the insurance coverage provided by your credit card "BECAUSE WE ALREADY GIVE YOU A VERY GOOD DAILY RATE".
They will also ask you to sign for the insurance deductibles etc. for hubcaps, minor scratches. NOTE, they promise you will get the deductibles back on your card a few days after you have returned the car without damage. In my case it was 11,000 plus 1148.40 Pesos.
The 1148.40 Pesos was never returned and the 11,000 never showed on our statement although I had to sign for it and still have the small credit card printout slips.

THE BOTTOM LINE
ACR charges came to $55 per day instead of the promised $34 daily rate because they have not yet refunded the 1148.40 pesos deposit.
Obviously I have disputed the charge with my credit card company.

And yes, I have tried to resolve the matter with ACR without avail before contacting my credit card company. I have contacted the desk clerk and tried calling the number he provided.

Lookout!!

a huge scam. We had rented a car for 3 weeks and we already fixed an all-in insurance from a third pary upfront. When we arrived we could take the rental car only if we took an extra insurance of €370 (this was absolutely not optional).

Never rent a car from this company and never pay in advance because you will regret it.

Canceling the rental and getting a refund was absolutely not an option with this company. Because the pick-up address of the cars is not at the airport but on a deserted site, you also have little choice to go for another option.

The only positive was the car and the way of returning it

Eventually we got a car and we had two insurance policies, in short we paid way too much.
