Beautiful area. The climb to the top is very challenging, it’s higher than any point in the continental US, so plan accordingly!

Ideal place to start your trip around the Nevado de Toluca crater. We came on the rainy monday and met only 6 other people during the day.
The road up can be easily climbed by a normal car you only pay 50 pesos to the guard in the valley about 3km after you leave the road number 10.

Open Volcano with loads of places to hike and even camp. We spend 2 days there and it was a very cool experience. Just over weekends it gets crowded.

At over 14,000 feet (4000 meters) the Nevado de Toluca is one of Mexico's easiest to get to 14 peakers!

The road almost goes up all the way up. At the last part you'll have to walk to the moon and sun lake.

Fun fact: There are actually 2 roads that go up this volcano. The lesser known road goes up the east side of the volcano coming in from the Zacango Zoo which also comes up on Google Maps.
