I recently spent two weeks in a condo on 38th and my wife came down to join me for the last four days. I discovered La Casa Loca and took my wife there once she arrived. It is located on the ground level of La Terrazas condos and it is directly across from Amate 38. It is hard to see through all the trees but they do have a sign on the street to help you find it.
The thing about La Casa Loca is not only is the food excellent but I can't believe how inexpensive it is. A latte is 45 pesos, that's about $2.30 US. I like Au Cacao and have been going there for years but their latte was 60 pesos this year and in my opinion not as good as La Casa Loca.
We had breakfast at La Casa Loca four times. I had the omelet and my wife had granola, yogurt and fresh fruit. They were both excellent. My omelet was 50 pesos, that would be $2.50 US. I don't recall what the yogurt and granola cost.
The couple that run the restaurant are very nice and like to chat when you stop in. They also have an eye for detail in the design of the restaurant, from the hug me signs on the little cactus looking plants on each table to the free sample of cookie with each coffee and free infused water with every coffee also.
The deck in front of the store is a great place to enjoy your latte and people watch as groups of people migrate down calle 38th toward the beach.
Honestly, this is the least expensive and best coffee and breakfast in this area of Playa.
