A great place to try mezcal!!! We got four shots and two beers- spent the most we’ve ever spent in one outing in Mexico but it was totally worth it. We tried Tobala, Coyote, Reserva Jabali, and Madrecuishe. Madrecuishe was our fave! The ambiance was really interesting- it was either blaring Mexican music or 80’s hairmetal ???? the man who served us was extremely kind and even took the time to bring us extra oranges. 5/5 for everything, definitely worth a visit if you’re in Oaxaca!

The music was way too load.
Great if you want to scream songs in spanish, but you can't even hear a person sitting next to you.
To add to that, the wings are very dry and the sausage that comes with it is not so good unfortunetly.

A place to be serious with your mezcal. This is a Bar with a capital “B.” Dark, woodsy and cool. A place to go with 2 or 3 friends that enjoy mezcal without the kiddo crowd. There’s even a jukebox. Brush up on your Spanish or prepare to just go with the bartenders’s recommendation (as I did), as tourists are scarce and English is even harder to find.

Casa de Mezcal is the type of place you go to rub elbows with locals while drinking good mezcal in an establishment that has been around for almost 100 years. Far less pretentious than many of the new mezcalerías that have popped up over the last 10 years, it's a must if you want to have a trust authentic experience. Try the cedrón, a herb-infused mezcal that also helps with upset tummies. Make sure to check out the incredible murals in the sitting area next to the bar, they will definitely blow your mind.

I'm sure it's super traditional and all that but the machismo at the bar was thick, some traditions are better off forgotten.
