This was an amazing adventure! We went in a group of 6 friends and spent 2 days with Gilberto (the owner), Cesar and Samwel (guides). We did Chipitin on day 1 and Matacanes on the 2nd day. Between the 2, we stayed overnight at the cabins.
Chipitin:
This is a great intro tour. It was 5 hours and pretty relaxed. There were 7 rappels starting small and ending with rappel down a 300ft waterfall which was breathtaking. If you don't like heights or rappelling, this one isn't for you. I would also highly recommend taking some extra water and snacks, although some are provided to you along the way. Gilberto came along with us and was a pleasure to have. He shared a lot of fun facts and tips for rappelling in English which made things easier. I would also highly recommend taking them up on the offer of a horse ride back up to camp at the end of the trip. The hour long up hill walk would not have been fun, especially if you have another trip the next day.
Camp:
The camp is very rustic. Wood cabins with some beds, etc. Much more comfortable than camping but don't expect a hotel. We really enjoyed it. It does get cold u0026 dark at night though even in the summer so bring a light jacket and a headlamp/flashlight.
Matacanes:
This was a no joke excursion. Started out w/ a 1.5 hr hike to the stream, with the first 1/3 being uphill. Then an immediate fairly large rappel. If we hadn't done Chipitin the previous day we'd I think we would have been intimidated. We then spent another 8 hours doing a combination of hiking, jumping and swimming. This is not a casual adventure and would recommend only for the young or fit. Also it can get very hot and there's not much access to springs along the way, so I would recommend bring extra water/gatorade and snacks. The hike out was another 1.5 hrs. We started at 8am and ended at 5pm. Saw some amazing sights though and it included swimming in a completely dark cave and doing a 35 foot jump.
