This was super fun. My partner and I went with Sergio and did the Eagle's nest tour.

To be honest, i didn't do too much research so i assumed it was just a simple hike - but it turned out to be much more than that - probably class 3 or class 4 scrambling.

Anyways, after hiking up the majority of the elevation gain, sergio and julia were super patient in waiting and explaining how to stay safe. They kept an eye on us the entire time and made sure we were not in danger. We had harnesses and were clipped onto route wires (kind of like a via ferrata) towards the top when we were doing the more exposed scrambles.

They also took wonderful photos for us.

By the time we got to the top, it was time to descend and Sergio very clearly and precisely explained how to rappel down the mountain.

I felt safe the entire time and was glad to have this adventure.

IMO it was definitely worth it - if not for the pictures, then for the experience.

Well organized trip. We went on a week day to Matacanes, but when a large group had to cancel because of COVID, they made huge efforts to get us out on the adventure anyways. I have to say a big thank you for that. The guides were experienced and we felt comfortable with them.

Matacanes is an excursion where you can see beautiful waterfalls, caves, natural formations and at the same time experience adrenaline and great adventure. You need to pick a company that will get you through this safely.

I would gladly use this tour company again.

Gilberto was awesome! Took 2 tours with them while I was there. Super friendly, communicative, really easy to work with, and a lot of fun. Definitely recommend.

Gilberto Martínez took me and my friends out on the best trip ever.
The hike to the summit was amazing and not too hard! Views from the top are stunning… Gilberto is a real professional and helped us with everything needed, from hooking on to safety lines and rappelling down the cliffs.

I’d very much recommend this company if you wanna do a hike to Nido de los aguiluchos!

had a blast. they provide breakfast, snacks, drinks (a good mix of drinks for everyone) and a small lunch. Excellent guiding down the river and well knowledgeable staff. Two repels, two caves and a lot of jumping and sliding down and off waterfalls was super cool. this is a must do if you are heading to that area. I will say ride to it is rough and long but well worth it. You will also do a lot of hiking but again worth it but wear good hiking shoes that can get wet. I wore water shoes but with a really good sol.

This was an amazing adventure! We went in a group of 6 friends and spent 2 days with Gilberto (the owner), Cesar and Samwel (guides). We did Chipitin on day 1 and Matacanes on the 2nd day. Between the 2, we stayed overnight at the cabins.

Chipitin:
This is a great intro tour. It was 5 hours and pretty relaxed. There were 7 rappels starting small and ending with rappel down a 300ft waterfall which was breathtaking. If you don't like heights or rappelling, this one isn't for you. I would also highly recommend taking some extra water and snacks, although some are provided to you along the way. Gilberto came along with us and was a pleasure to have. He shared a lot of fun facts and tips for rappelling in English which made things easier. I would also highly recommend taking them up on the offer of a horse ride back up to camp at the end of the trip. The hour long up hill walk would not have been fun, especially if you have another trip the next day.

Camp:
The camp is very rustic. Wood cabins with some beds, etc. Much more comfortable than camping but don't expect a hotel. We really enjoyed it. It does get cold u0026 dark at night though even in the summer so bring a light jacket and a headlamp/flashlight.

Matacanes:
This was a no joke excursion. Started out w/ a 1.5 hr hike to the stream, with the first 1/3 being uphill. Then an immediate fairly large rappel. If we hadn't done Chipitin the previous day we'd I think we would have been intimidated. We then spent another 8 hours doing a combination of hiking, jumping and swimming. This is not a casual adventure and would recommend only for the young or fit. Also it can get very hot and there's not much access to springs along the way, so I would recommend bring extra water/gatorade and snacks. The hike out was another 1.5 hrs. We started at 8am and ended at 5pm. Saw some amazing sights though and it included swimming in a completely dark cave and doing a 35 foot jump.
