1st morning in Mexico city and we are awake at 6am, we want a hearty Mexican breakfast and this place does not disappoint!!! The atmosphere was lovely with some live music and the foooood... Chicharrón Verde and frijoles with egg and coffee are sensational !!!!!!!

Based on all the hype and recommendations, I was expecting superior flavors. Their dishes are ok. Nothing spectacular, but yet serviceable. With so may choices around the city, I would rather go elsewhere next time.

Expect lines to get in but the waiting time is pretty decent. There’s live music inside the venue. The tables are communal, usually seating around 12 people. Their menu is varied, they offer green chilaquiles, different types of eggs, and 5-6 meat or pork “guisados”. Not an option for vegans and limited for vegetarians. Loved their eggs with beans, they were super tasty. The salsa of the chilaquiles was very tasty too. They offer coffee (with sugar, so if you don’t like it order it without it in advance), fresh orange juice, and sodas. The venue is ok, kind of traditional and cozy. Service is fast, kind of friendly, but not the best. Really cheap prices.

Super legit and authentic Mexican breakfast. We waited about 30 mins in line, brushed off our rusty high school level Spanish and ended up having one of the best meals of our trip.

If you're up for an adventure, this place is absolutely worth it.

Ok, let's address the main issue here about the 2 and 3 star reviews. This place is a FONDA. If you're not familiar with the term, it refers to a 'popular' food establishment. Popular in this context is more 'for the populous' than the American meaning for popular. Having said that, the food is REALLY good, albeit very simple. Tables are long and you'll be sitting and eating next to strangers. Very homey. Overall I think it’s a great experience.
If you’re uneasy in a setting like this or are expecting 5 star dinning, this is not the place.
They open only for breakfast.

Located in the middle of the Colonia del Valle, Fonda Margarita is an excellent place to try out the traditional Mexican cuisine. Even though it is easy on the wallet, the servings are more than fair sized and they take credit cards, even American Express! However, its popularity makes the service a bit slow and, unless you are a morning person, there will always be a waiting line. Also, keep in mind you'll likely need to share table, as the smallest tables available are for 6. Overall, if you are up for traditional and cheap Mexican cuisine, the wait is definitely worth your while!

Best meal that I had in Mexico City by far! I recommend coming on weekdays at 8am or so before there’s a line. Order the most popular dishes (especially the black bean dish and the chilaquiles with eggs).
