Terrific breakfast, brunch, and lunches were had here by my wife and I. The service is excellent! The hot chocolate is an absolute must - though I recommend sharing it between two adults as it is quite rich and very strong.
The breakfast menu is delightful with terrific flavour. Not too spicy - just right. My eggs and beans kept me full and ready to go from 9am right until we had dinner at 7.

They have English menus available and many of the wait staff understand some English.

What an experience. After a nice afternoon in the city center spending a much needed rest here was a great experience. The food was A++ traditional and crazy yummy. Even tired ant larvae called in Spanish Escamoles really good and didn't think anything else about it. They have such a good variety of dishes. The choices of mole one to the other are all so good from sweet to a nice spice. None where to ???? hot spice wise. They even have a serenading guitar band that makes the experience all so enjoyable. Enjoy in good eats and health!

This is a very lively place and the service is great. Pro tip: Come here early to avoid the crowd. They have English menu.
We ordered the zucchini flower and mushroom omelette plus carnitas tortilla with a side a bacon, and hot chocolate.
The hot chocolate is a must try!

We had the seasonal menu. The starter and dessert are common and do not deserve any comment here. However the Chile de Nogada was incredible. This plate is worth the trip to the restaurant, it was sublime (and in large quantity, with hindsight we might have only took this plate rather than the menu)

Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. Place was clean, food was good. The whole dining experience was remarkable given the money spent is not that much. Well recommended!

Waited 15 minutes to get in. The location is nice. The service was fast but very little communication, does not feel that the staff was friendly. There was no conversation whatsoever, but was efficient.
Ordered the fruit salad and an omelette. The omelette was way too salty, the fruit salad just regular, nothing spectacular, probably similar to what you can get on the street just plated. The hot chocolate was spectacular.

El Cardenal restaurant in Mexico City is very much worth a visit if you are looking for good local cuisine. The prices are reasonable.
Breakfast is particularly delicious.
Traditional venue just one block away from the Zocalo.
