Great traditional restaurant with original dishes from Puebla. If you would like to try a real good Mole or, in July until September, a wonderful Chile Enogada, Go for it! Attention: Cash only.

I was looking for the best poblano restaurant in mexico city and I was pointed in this direction. Location is not fancy it is a Cash only place. Favoured by many politicians but with Ok food nothing memorable.
There are some other options for poblano cuisine in more accesible places.
I would not return.

The best Poblano style cuisine restaurant in the city! If you are in Mexico City, but you don’t have time to go to Puebla and enjoy their cuisine, don’t worry, you have this Poblano restaurant in the city that will delight your senses! The place is like an old Mexican style house, decorated very traditional and it’s very cozy. It is very important to know a couple of things before you go: First, this restaurant is “cash-only”, so beware to bring more less $500 MXN per person. And the second thing is to make a reservation, if you are planning to go on the weekend. Try as entree the “chalupas poblanas” (fried mini-tortilla with pork and red/green sauce, not spicy). And whatever soup you want to try, you’ll be astonished by the richness and flavor of them! For main dish, you’ll have a hard decision, but if you want to try authentic Poblano cuisine, try the chicken “enmoladas” (with homemade “mole poblano”) or the “totopostles” (flattened ground beef steaks), which will delight your taste. And finally, but no less important, for dessert you should definitely try the pine nut custard, but be sure to be the first thing to order to the waiter and tell him/her to save one of those, because they only do a certain amount of them a day and they are all gone very quickly.

Expecting to eat true mexican cuisine in Mexico city sounds logical right ?
Well. Not necessarily. It's about using TRUE and FRESH ingredients and ORIGINAL recipes.
Casa MERLOS is one of those rare places where you can delight with authentic mexican cuisine mainly from the state of Puebla.
Hint. Reserve in advance, cash only and check opening dates.

Delicious food! The waiter brought out a sample plate of different moles before my order. All were tasty, and I decided to go with the house mole. The chalupas were a great appetizer and I also got a bowl of their speciality bean soup. Would love to come back!
