We were content, liked our room that we booked for 10 days. Just as we finished unpacking the manager knocked on our door and said he had a better room for us, even though he told us that we had the best room in the hotel already. So we looked at it.
It was a better room for us because there was a desk for my husband and a huge outdoor deck. It was a quieter and more private location. The manager, Julio, said he wanted us to have this opportunity because a guest had canceled and we were there for 10 days. So, we packed up and switched rooms feeling lucky and blessed.
On the 5th day of our stay, my husband’s 73rd birthday, Julio called and said we had to switch rooms because there was a gas leak and it could only be repaired by accessing our room and deck. He granted us a grace period allowing us to stay two more nights.
We were both suspicious of this and on the appointed day I questioned and then argued with Julio about this and told him I felt he was being dishonest with us. He said he was not, that we were in danger, that walls had to be broken into, that he would do anything to make us happier. I asked him for financial compensation of some kind and he said he would present it to his boss for consideration.
That night there was a rooftop party and people introduced themselves to us. It turned out a frequent client had checked into his favorite room, the only one he ever stays in, the one with the large patio.
The room we were just evicted from!
I called Julio the next morning to ask about the compensation. He said it was under review. I asked if the room was repaired, he said no.
At that point I called him out for his dishonesty. He continued to lie. He said the guest was willing to take the room with no hot water, an option he did not offer us. I knew it was not true because I had met the guest in our room again that morning.
Julio lied to us continuously. Manipulated us and jerked used around. He would never own up to his lies. Nor did we receive any compensation or apology.
It’s a shame that a manager would treat any guest, especially seniors with such disrespect.
The lack of integrity in his actions and intentions is inexcusable for many reasons.
I have never in all the decades of traveling been treated so poorly by the representative of a hotel before.
I will go to the owners over this.
I hope no one else is treated this way.
Don’t risk the same treatment. Choose another hotel.
