I made a reservation here but ended up leaving before checkin. This place looks v different from the pics. Dark rooms, full of odd stains in walls, beat up furniture.
The main thing - a first in Mexico for me - was how dirty n dingy everything seemed.
The neighborhood is dead, the front desk girls are indifferent and incompetent. The foyer full of motorcycles you have to weave through.
And the prices completely unjustified. I'm glad i gave it a miss. I can, i did, do better.
I don't understand how they have or keep a 4.2 rating.

I stayed at the Hostel del Refugio for about a month last February and had a great time. It was a clean and well-run place with responsive staff and fairly close to downtown and a little neighborhood market. I especially liked the kitchen (well organized with totes for each guest) and the rooftop, where they had a barbecue pit and laundry facilities/clothesline. The only issue I had with the hostel was that I had a bit of a hard time finding it at first.
I would absolutely stay there again and hope to in the future!

The hotel was in a good location and the perks of b-fast laundry and cable wifi etc gave the stay a pleacent feeling like home, but it ws still a hostel. They just need events or group anaucemets to create tours or nightous Other than that, it was a clean stay.

Hostel is in safe location, in GDL few minutes to the metro station, Gustavo the owner is really nice and helpful person, does his best to feel comfortable. I went here second time again!

This is, without a doubt, the worst place I've ever stayed. Unfortunately, I made a 7 day reservation in advance and couldn't get out of it. This is not a hostel that has anything to do with travellers. Especially from outsideof Mexico. It is a boarding house for itinerate Mexican workers and some Mexican travellers who come in for the week end. The place is extremely uncomfortable and unfriendly. The on line advertisement states that there's 24 hr. service behind the desk. No service and hardly anyone there at any time. It states that breakfast is included. There is no breakfast and not even coffee. I had ASK for toilet paper. I had to ASK to have my bedsheets changed and my room cleaned. This should not be listed as a hostel. I would like to know how I could possibly get at least a partial refund? Don't waste your time and money here!

Great place! The pricing for the private room is fair and the staff are very welcoming
