Amazing set of small, authentic restaurants, reasonably priced and visited by locals. I had tacos al pastor (grilled pork on a huge vertical spit with actual charcoal - a rarity) for about $1.00 US a piece (plus chips and salsas at no additional cost) and a quesadilla made from scratch (the lady made the tortilla on a grill) for about $1.10 U.S. at another place in the Plaza. There were another 5-6 other restaurants there as well.
The location is down the street (about 6 blocks) from the more up-scale places (think la Parrilla) on Av Yaxchilan, and is behind the Burger King. I stayed at the Grand City Hotel, which was a 2 block walk from the Plaza Las Avenidas. If you are a foodie and interested in real Mexican food, check this location out.
