4.5 sounds right to us. We travel from New York and we always ask our uber driver what their favorite local food is, so, we found this as the closest restaurant with one $ sign that has mole.
Pros: clean (front side of a plaza), professional staff, nice American music lol, best tortilla chips and salsa while waiting (out of 4 restaurants we have eated at on this trip), good price, with a sports bar, convenient for walking/ bus route from centro Cancun locations (use Moovit app to figure out bus routes which is usually about 10-15 pesos per person per trip).
Cons: not much, other than we do not really like the mole (chocolate flavor too strong, too much bean) but it could be either we did not know how to eat it right, or we just don’t like sweet sauce. The flan’s texture is not smooth but the taste is fine, large portion. One son did not like horchata (milk drink with sugar, cinnamon powder) but the other one likes it a lot. The burritos are good but we are not sure having French fries fillings is an American (US) thing or authentic Mexican thing.
Overall, good and affordable local food without getting to the busy Avenida Tulum, but I still want something even more local (couple-owned, server not speaking English, setting more like street food, etc.)
